Dear Society
Happy new year and welcome to the first issue of Society Insider, in which we share the latest ongoings from LPS with you.
To kickstart the new year, the founders André & Felix want to share some news from behind the scenes and picked a couple of things on how to prepare for a good year.
On starting a fashion brand
After ruminating on the idea of the Low Performer Society for quite some time, we decided to make the jump and start our own fashion brand last year. André is good at business, Felix is good at design—the perfect combination, right? Well, yes. And no, because we need partners, and a network to build a functioning system behind LPS. And that takes time. And then, when we finally had our first batch of T-Shirts ready … they got lost during shipping. So, right now we’re working on finding our lost packages so we can continue with getting everything ready for the first drop (which will happen in the first quarter of ’24).
On drops
It’s a hot buzz word especially in street style, which is why we’d like to give you some insights into why we chose to work in this system.
Drops give us a good framework to work with and helps to keep timelines and yearly plans in order.
They also help not to overproduce and sit on dead stock. Which means producing items that will be worn and loved instead of collecting dust in a storage unit.
So yes, while drops are hip, they also mean that we can focus our time and resources on clothing that will matter to you, which we believe to be the ultimate way to be sustainable and resourceful as a fashion brand.
On starting a new year
We believe recommendations are a great way to discover truly new and unexpected things, instead of algorithm suggestions based on what we already like. So here are 3 recommendations from the Low Performer Society founders on how to start a new year.
Tips for the society:
-
You got this. It often seems hard, but in the end, we’re all feeling like we’re in over our heads—especially those who seem to be perfectly fine. Ask people how they truly are and be yourself. We really enjoyed this TED Talk on ow you can use impostor syndrome to your benefit, by Mike Cannon-Brookes.
-
Carry a notebook with you, write thoughts down, make sketches of cool things. "The hand is the window to the mind," said the German philosopher Immanuel Kant, read these 8 reasons why writing by hand is awesome.
-
How to find new music outside of your algorithm. When an algorithm suggests you “something new” it’s based of what you already like. But is it really new then? When it comes to music, we like following Bandcamp’s Album of the Day, a selection that highlights good, noteworthy music.
On this note, why not recommend Low Performer Society to a friend?
That’s it! Wishing you all a great start of 2024. See you in the next one!
